Basic CERT Training – Free
Hays County Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) will be offering the Basic CERT Certification Class:
Where: First Baptist Church San Marcos – 325 McCarty Ln, San Marcos, TX 78666
Class 1 Saturday, October 21st – 8:00 am to 5:00 pm
Class 2 Saturday, October 28th – 8:00 am to 5:00 pm
Final/Practical Saturday, November 18th – 9:00 am to 12:00 pm
(Attendance and participation is mandatory for certification)
Become Nationally CERT certified by taking this 20-hour course. Help yourself and your neighbors during an emergency. This course is intended to provide the knowledge and skills citizen volunteers need to effectively serve their community; the focus is on preparing for local emergencies and how to respond to them.
Class 1, Class 2 and the Final/Practical must be attended along with taking an online test (done at your convenience prior to November 18th), IS-317, scored through the FEMA website.
Follow these easy steps in order to register for this class:
Step 1 – Submit Hays CERT application. Go to http://www.hayscountycert.com then select the Volunteer/Contact Us at the top of the page. Click on the “application form” hyperlink in the center of the page.
Step 2 – Email completed Hays CERT application to email@example.com
Step 3 – Sign up for an account on Preparing Texas http://www.preparingtexas.org/ Click the “Create an Account” on the top/right side. Once complete then you can register for class – see Step 4.
Step 4 – Register for class at http://www.preparingtexas.org/ click the “Training Catalog” tab at the top of the page. On the “Classroom Catalog” form enter only the “Course#” G317 and click the search. Click “View Available Classes” and select the course at First Baptist Church San Marcos to register.
*There will be a delay between registration and the acceptance, wait until you receive emails for both.
Step 5 – Register for an SID Number with FEMA. Save this number as you will need it later. https://cdp.dhs.gov/femasid

- Coffee and water will be provided.
- Lunch Break 1 hour – there are restaurants nearby or feel free to bring from home.
We will have access to a microwave.
Final/Practical – Must be taken and submitted to firstname.lastname@example.org prior to November 17th (Friday,) Go to https://training.fema.gov/is/courseoverview.aspx?code=is-317 -Save this website; your final (IS-317: Introduction to Community Emergency Response Teams) as well as other emergency certification will be taken here. Additional suggested classes: IS-100.B, IS-200.B, IS-700.A and IS-800.B These can be taken anytime during or after this course.
